Alternate Los Shakers Albums

Alternate Los Shakers Albums

Los Shakers (or The Shakers) were a Uruguayan band that started out as basically a Beatles of South America (You can start to see why I like these guys). The bands music started to change however during the mid-to-late 1960s with them starting to incorporate more bossa nova and jazz elements to their music. All this finally resulted in their last album, La conferencia secreta del Toto's Bar, which is often called the South American version of Sgt. Pepper's. Talking to some people (mostly TimeWarper) I was surprised at how close that band were to getting international fame. They had multiple opportunities to make it worldwide, however either because they couldn't or just didn't want to, their music mostly stayed in South America. TimeWarper has said he is also working on an alternate Los Shakers timeline of his own, and I don't know if that's going to happen, but his timeline seems to be way more in-depth than mine (so just check it out when it's up). Mine will mostly focus on the impact Los Shakers will have on the British market. So let us begin.

In 1966, Odeon's parent company, EMI started to recognised the popularity in the band called "Los Shakers". The band seemed to have gathered quite a big fan base back in South America. Due to this, EMI wanted to test the band out in the British market with the Parlophone label. The band had already had a US album out under the Audio Fidelity label and with the soon announced tour of America and maybe even Europe, The Shaker's first US album, Break It All, was selling like hot cakes. Parlophone Records obviously did not want to miss out on this Shaker-mania, and with The Beatles lack of material that year, they had accepted a record contract with Parlophone Records.

The Shakers - The Shakers (1966)

  1.  Break It All
  2. What a Love
  3. Only in Your Eyes
  4. Don't Ask Me Love
  5. Do Not Disturb
  6. Give Me
  1. It's Not Bad
  2. For You, For Me
  3. Ticket To Ride
  4. Thinking
  5. Won't You Please
  6. Forgive Me

After the success of their first album in the UK, Parlophone decided to use the leftover material from the South American album and some singles to create another album, this time for the Christmas market..The butchering of The Shakers albums didn't really matter at this point, as long as their music hit the english-speaking market in a positive way. This album doesn't really have the same kind of his The Shakers does with its Break It All. Sure, it does have Eveybody Shake, but it didn't really do anything in the charts along with their cover of My Bonnie.

The Shakers - Everybody Shake! (1966)

  1. Everybody Shake
  2. It’s My Party
  3. Shake In The Streets
  4. Stop The Game
  5. More
  6. Baby Yeah, Yeah
  1. Tell Them
  2. Keep Searching
  3. My Bonnie
  4. Baby Do The Shake
  5. See You Later, Alligator
  6. The Longest Night

As the nature of things like these usually are, Shakers For You was released a year late. Parlophone records feared that this album was too much of a detour from their first two albums. However, with some reassurance and the addition of their singl Always You and Oh My Friend on the album, this album was surprisingly successful with the fans with the popularity of bossa nova.

The Shakers - Shakers For You (1967)

  1. Never, Never
  2. The Child And Me
  3. Hear My Words
  4. Picking Up Troubles
  5. Too Late
  6. Let Me Tell You
  7. Always You
  1. Oh My Friend
  2. Got Any Money?
  3. You’ll Find Another Girl
  4. Smile Again
  5. Reviens Ma Cherie
  6. I Hope You’ll Like It 042

The gap between their last album and the next was too long the Parlophone records. They were indeed aware of them recording a new album but they were informed it would take some time until it was finished. Parlophone knew this album would be even more of a detour from their last album and wanted something out quick before they lost all their fans. This album was the result of this scrambling. It contains non-album singles & B-sides as well as some studio rarities.

The Shakers - A Collection Of Shakers (1968)

  1. I Wanna Be Your Man
  2. The Land Of A Thousand Dances
  3. Peek-A-Boo
  4. If I Knew Mother
  5. Let Me Alone
  6. Girl
  1. Hallelujah
  2. Red Rubber Ball
  3. Yellow Submarine
  4. Don’t Call Me On The Telephone Anymore, Baby
  5. Waiting
  6. I Only Want To Be With You

The album was worth the wait. South America's very own version of Sgt. Pepper's with a jazz and bossa nova touch to it. However, Parlophone had a slight problem. They had already used the Always You/Oh My Friend single on Shakers For You. Luckly, The Shakers had a non-album single of When I'm Sixty-Four and Lovely Lola which they could fit in to this album.

The Shakers - La Conferencia Secreta Del Toto’s Bar (1969)

  1. La Conferencia Secreta Del Toto’s Bar / Mi Tia Clementina
  2. Candombe
  3. Acostumbro A Ver T.V. Los Martes 36
  4. Una Forma De Arco Iris

  1. B.B.B. Band
  2. Yo Recuerdo Mi Mundo
  3. Adorable Lola
  4. El Pina Y La Rosa
  5. Senor Carretera El Encantado
  6. Mas Largo Que El Ciruela

Due to way more support from their labels unlike in our timeline, The Shakers never split. This results in the next album The Bossa Nova Of The Shakers. This album saw The Shakers take a completely different path from their Beatle roots. As the title may suggest, the album contains mostly songs of the bossa nova genre, to a greater extent than before.

The Shakers - The Bossa Nova Of The Shakers (1969)

  1. Sueño Realidad
  2. The Day I’ve Got a Friend
  3. Este Muchacho Está Enamorado De Ti
  4. Ojos Oscuros
  5. I Will, My Love
  6. La Larga Noche
  1. Chicalanga
  2. Someone
  3. From My Bed
  4. Hechizo
  5. Poema De Las Cinco
  6. Amaneciendo

If the last album was following the bossa nova directions of the Fattoruso brothers, this album followed directions from Caio and Pelin which resulted in this garage rock inspired album. Incidentally, this became the last Los Shakers album in their main discography. Although things such as Otroshakers and Bonus Tracks happened later on, this stop was due to the band's loss of interest in the general public.

The Shakers - In The Studio Again (1971)

    1. For My Friend M
    2. It’s Too Late
    3. Samba Doble

    1. Say to Me with Your Eyes
    2. You Like Me Too Much
    3. Too Many People
    4. I Think of You
    5. Never, Never
    6. El Pino y La Rosa

    Happy New Year!
